Startup of the Month: Figorr

Figorr, founded in 2017 by Oghenetega Iortim, is an IoT company that offers real-time monitoring and tracking for temperature-sensitive items. The company aims to bridge gaps in the cold chain logistics sector in Sub-Saharan Africa by providing innovative, affordable cold chain solutions for storage and transportation.

The Figorr team

The Figorr Enterprise software enables businesses to collect real-time data on ambient temperature, humidity, GPS location, and battery life of their temperature-sensitive cargo. This data empowers businesses to analyze data logs and proactively respond to potential challenges that may harm their perishable goods.

Figorr leverages its compact and powerful device known as MOTE to deliver real-time data on the location, humidity, and temperature of sensitive and perishable products. About the size of a pack of cards, MOTE enables businesses to access this data through Figorr’s proprietary software. This capability empowers businesses to swiftly respond to unfavorable conditions, minimizing losses and ensuring the integrity of their products.

Figorr’s solutions have gained traction in various countries, including Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. The company’s devices, placed in cold storage setups, come at no cost, with users subscribing to access the collected data.

One notable achievement of Figorr is its involvement in Nigeria’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout. The company played a vital role in tracking and monitoring around 40 million vaccine doses for the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency. This achievement underscores Figorr’s potential impact not only in the healthcare sector but also in agriculture and other industries where the monitoring and preservation of perishable goods are critical.

To expand its operations, deliver new solutions, and solidify its position as a leader in the industry, Figorr recently secured $1.5 million in a seed funding round led by Atlantica Ventures.
