We recorded some fundraising and acquisitions announcements in today’s Africa’s Weekly Funding Review episode.

  • Talk360 raised a $4 million seed round
  • LifeChaq raised a $3.3 million Series A
  • BetaStore raised $2.5 million pre-Series A
  • Appetito acquired Lamma for over $10 million

Fundraising

Talk360, a South African startup that connects lives and bridges distance by making international phone calls affordable and accessible for everyone, raised a $4 million seed funding round led by HAVAÍC. Other investors that participated in the round include The 4Di Capital, Gaston Aussems (ex-Mollie), Robert Kraal (ex-Adyen), Gabriel de Montessuss (President WorldPay International), Marnix van der Ploeg (ex-Booking.com and EQT) and other angel investors.

LifeCheq, a South African fintech platform that helps you navigate your most important life decisions around career, personal finance and business, raised a $3.3 million Series A funding round. Naspers invested $2.5 million in the company through Naspers Foundry.

Betastore (SimpleMarket Inc), a Nigerian B2B retail marketplace that helps grocery shops better source products and get working capital financing for growth, raised $2.5 million in a pre-Series A funding round from 500 Global, VestedWorld and Loyal VC.

Ayoken, a blockchain-based platform that provides exclusive digital collectibles from the world’s biggest musicians & influencers, raised a $1.4 million pre-seed funding round from Founders Factory Africa, Kon Ventures, Crypto League, R9C Ventures and Maximus Ventures.

Shopstar, a South African online store platform for entrepreneurs to start and grow successful businesses, raised an undisclosed amount in its third funding round from Launch Africa Ventures.

Finclusion Group, an African-focused fintech platform building out a complete neobank offering for its users, secured investment from Cairo Angels Syndicate Fund (CASF).

DriveMe.ng, a Nigerian mobility technology startup, raised an undisclosed amount in pre-seed funding round from Niche Capital, FM Capital, and other local angel investors.

Appetito, an Egyptian startup that delivers daily a wide range of high-quality food and grocery products, has acquired Lamma for over $10million.

Venture Capital

Constant Ventures is launching a $100 million fund for West African startups

AfricInvest closes African midcap-focused fund at over $400 million
