Masthead
Write for AU-Startups
We're opening the masthead to operators, investors, and journalists who know African tech. If you can report on what's really happening on the ground — funding rounds, founder decisions, policy shifts, the deeptech work nobody is covering — we want you writing for us.
What we publish
- News & funding pieces — rounds, acquisitions, launches, policy moves. Verified against primary sources.
- Founder & operator essays — first-person pieces from people who've built or run things. Specifics, not generalities.
- Analysis — sector reads, data stories, deep-dives that don't exist anywhere else.
- Guides — practical, high-usefulness resources for founders and operators at specific stages.
What we look for
- Real domain knowledge — you work in the sector or have spent years reporting on it.
- A track record we can read — a blog, Substack, published bylines, or at least a LinkedIn with substance.
- Specific story ideas, not "I'd like to write about African tech." Name the companies, the trend, the data.
- Willingness to do the reporting work — talking to sources, verifying facts, pulling numbers from primary filings.
How it works
- Submit the application below.
- An editor reviews within 10 business days. If it's a fit, we'll get on a short call or exchange a few emails.
- Approved contributors get an author profile on the site (with your bio, photo, and socials) and access to submit drafts directly from your account dashboard.
- Every piece is edited to the same standard as our staff work. See the editorial policy.
- Paid on a per-piece basis once approved. We'll discuss rates during onboarding.
