AU-Startup of the Month: MoKo Home + Living

MoKo Home + Living is a Kenyan furniture startup specialising in home furniture manufacturing and retailing.

Eric Kouskalis and Fiorenzo Conte founded the company in 2014 to provide high-quality furniture and ensure its customers’ convenience. To accomplish this, the company began as Watervale Investment Limited, tackling the problems with raw material supply for the furniture industry.

It then shifted gears in 2017 to begin testing its mattress, which also serves as its first direct-to-consumer product. A year later, the MoKo Home + Living brand was introduced to the general public. According to the company, more than 370,000 Kenyan households currently use its products.

MoKo Home recently raised $6.5 million in Series B debt-equity funding led by Talanton and AlphaMundi Group to help expand its presence and growth in Kenya.

The startup has an ambitious 5-year plan that includes expanding its team from 300 to 800 employees, increasing its product line presence to over a million homes, expanding its product offering from sofas, mattresses, and accessories to a full range of essential furniture, and expanding into three countries.

“Our mission is to help our customers live a better quality of life in their homes,” says co-founder Eric Kouskalis.
