Issue #84: Crafty Workshop secures $400k seed funding, Haba raises $75k, while Outsized and Simply Financial Service had undisclosed fundings

In the past week, four startups secured financial investments from various VCs and Angels. Egyptian edtech Crafty Workshop, raised $400,000 in Seed funding, while Nigerian insurtech, Haba, secured $75,000 Pre-Seed funding. The other two funding deals involved Outsized and Simply Financial Services, who opted to keep the details of their fundraising rounds undisclosed.

Crafty Workshop

Funding round: Seed ($400,000)

Investors: Ed Ventures

Founded: 2019, Egypt

Founders: Hadeer Shalaby, Amgad Moustafa

Products:  Crafty Workshop is an Edtech startup operating an innovative digital educational platform. This platform offers a diverse range of courses, training programs, and workshops, spanning creative domains, including crafts, design, programming, photography, game development, and animation. 

What Next? Fuelled by the capital acquired, Crafty Workshop is set to commence work on scaling its operations and implementing its expansion plans.

Haba

Funding round:  Pre-Seed ($75,000)

Investors: Undisclosed

Founded: 2022, Nigeria

Founders: Constance Oshafi, Stephen Onwe, Paul Showemimo

Products:  Haba provides Insurtech services tailored to meet the diverse requirements of individuals and businesses. The company’s products include health, vehicle, and gadget insurance packages.

What Next?: The funding is projected to help the company bolster its service capabilities, reinforce its technical workforce, and intensify its marketing initiatives to connect with more individual customers. 

Outsized

Funding round: Series A (Undisclosed)

InvestorsKnife Capital, Adrian Durham

Founded: 2016, South Africa

Founders: Niclas Thelander, Anurag Bhalla

Products:  Outsized operates an innovative platform that connects top-tier independent talent in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East regions.

What Next? With the capital infusion, the company is set to expand its sales and engineering team, expand its operations, and fast-track product development for the benefit of both enterprise clients and independent professionals.

Simply Financial Services

Funding round: Undisclosed

Investors: The Hollard Group

Founded:  2016, South Africa

Founders: Anthony Miller, Simon Nicholson 

Products:  Simply Financial Services operates an Insurtech product providing direct life, disability, and funeral insurance for individuals and domestic workers.

What Next? Simply  Financial Services intends to invest the funding into developing its proprietary technology and improving its insurance capabilities, so it can swiftly deploy new products and features.
