Issue #98: Edtech, Klas raises $1m pre-seed while Remotely also secured $315k for its pre-seed funding

We witnessed six funding deals in the African startup ecosystem last week. Nigerian Edtech, Klas, remarkably raised a pre-seed funding of $1 Million. Ghanaian tech talent startup, Remoteli, also secured $315,000 from pro footballer, Jeremie Frimpong, to scale their operations and launch the “Pathways Project ” for young footballers. The details of the other funding deals were undisclosed.

Funding 

Bosso

Funding round: Undisclosed

Investors: Renew Capital

Founded:  2022, Zambia

Founders: Chisepo Chirwa

Products: Bosso Africa operates an all-in-one online marketplace designed to streamline the construction supply chain. The platform is designed to improve the accessibility of building materials for hardware stores, construction companies, and individual builders across the continent.

Bosso also offers multiple financing options to customers, including the popular Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) credit approach, traditional mortgages, and the Save Now, Build Later (SNBL) approach

What Next? : The funds will be channeled into fostering Bosso’s mission to transform the construction industry and improve accessibility to building materials and financing options for real estate development. 

Kwely

Funding round: Undisclosed

Investors: Digital Africa’s FUZE

Founded:  2020, Senegal

Founders: Birame Sock 

Products: Kwely operates as a B2B wholesale distribution network focusing on Made-in-Africa products. The company collaborates with African manufacturers to grow their brands, helping them achieve export-ready status and redefine the perception of African products globally.

What Next? : The company aims to position Made-in-Africa products in major global retail outlets, hotels, airports, specialized shops, and restaurants. The company has also recently unveiled its packaging studio, and is poised to offer filling and packaging services to its clients as well.

Klas

Funding round: Pre-seed ($1 Million)

Investors: Ingressive Capital, Techstars, HoaQ

Founded:  2022, Nigeria

Founders:  Nathan Nwachuku, Lekan Adejumo

Products:  Klas helps tutors to develop and sell ebooks, and courses, and conduct live classes. The company operates a platform that incorporates essential components like scheduling, payments, community features, analytics, and video conferencing facilitating knowledge sharing across diverse subjects such as coding, design, finance, art, and languages.

What Next? : Klas intends to follow through with its expansion roadmap. Fuelled by the funding, it will target markets such as India and North America. 

Medikea

Funding round: Undisclosed

Investors: Catalyst Fund

Founded:  2022, Tanzania

Founders: Elvis Silayo. Desire Ruhinda

Products: Medikea operates an innovative hybrid model combining telemedicine with physical clinics, strategically located in underserved communities. The company aims to make essential healthcare services more accessible to Tanzanians in remote areas. 

What Next? : The investment aims to fuel Medikea’s expansion to increase its reach and impact across Africa.

Tappi

Funding round: Undisclosed

Investors: Renew Capital, Acacia Ventures

Founded:  2022, Kenya

Founders: Kenfield Griffith, Louis Majanja

Products: Tappi offers innovative end-to-end Software as a Service (SaaS) and enterprise-grade tools that streamline website creation, customer engagement, and online advertising for businesses. 

What Next? :  The company intends to leverage the investment to deepen its connections with businesses and expand its reach in Africa

Remoteli

Funding round: Pre-Seed ($315,000)

Investors: Jeremie Frimpong

Founded:  2020, Ghana

Founders: Samuel Brooksworth

Products: Remoteli operates a job-matching marketplace. Its AI-powered software matches qualified tech talent with organizations needing their skills. 

What Next? : The company is in the process of improving its product by augmenting it with additional functionalities and tools such as project management tools, invoicing solutions, and customizable features for each organization’s needs.
