Week 8: Funding and Grant Opportunities for African Startups

Here is a list of opportunities that African entrepreneurs can take advantage of to help grow their businesses. This week, we highlight two edtech accelerator programs: WISE Edtech Accelerator and CcHub-Mastercard Foundation Edtech Fellowship.

Design Future Labs 2023

The Design Futures Lab 2023 creates a space for new narratives at the intersection of immersive technology and sustainable fashion and design by combining the worlds of fashion and new media.

The lab allows for the worlds of fashion and immersive technology to merge in a radical exploration of storytelling, world-building, and reimagining futures by combining the skillsets of fashion practitioners and digital technologists.

This creative economy project, supported by the British Council #SouthernAfricaArts, is now in its second year and in 2023 offers 12 South African and Zimbabwean content creators an opportunity to develop experiential, provocative and immersive digital narratives about sustainable fashion and design.

WISE Edtech Accelerator Programme

The WISE Edtech Accelerator is a key part of WISE’s edtech program that aims to support innovation and build an edtech community focused on revolutionizing the way we teach and learn.

Requirements for eligibility

  • Established for at least one year
  • Evidence of existing beneficiaries or users
  • Product beyond Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage
  • Evidence of existing revenue
  • A dedicated team

Benefits: Coaching & mentorship, access to an extensive network of investors and education specialists, international visibility.

Morgan Stanley Inclusive Ventures Lab

The Morgan Stanley Inclusive Ventures Lab is a rigorous five-month accelerator program aimed at assisting entrepreneurs in furthering their development and scaling, and it concludes with a Demo Day and showcase presentation to the investor community.

The program is Morgan Stanley’s in-house startup accelerator, supporting financial inclusion by giving underrepresented early-stage tech founders of  and tech-enabled businesses access to finance and networking opportunities.

Benefits: Customized curriculum, pairings with hand-picked mentors access to powerful networks.

CcHub – Mastercard Foundation Edtech Fellowship Program 2023
