Funding and Grant Opportunities for Startups in Africa – Week 30

As usual, we scoured the internet for the best funding and growth opportunities for African startups looking to launch, grow, and scale their operations.

This week’s opportunities include female-focused accelerator programs, seed funding opportunities, and opportunities targeted at young founders. There is something for everyone.

RisingTide Africa Accelerator Program 2023

RisingTide Africa is a sector-agnostic accelerator that seeks to support the growth of female-owned startups operating in Africa. The setup has unveiled a new cohort of its initiative and is inviting startups across different sectors with profitable solutions to partake in it.

Startup founders in agribusiness, IT solutions, fintech, renewable energy, health tech, ecommerce/retail, and climate tech sectors are all welcome to be part of the program.  The initiative will expose participants to 25 insightful training sessions featuring industry experts and established founders. They’ll also receive guidance on business plans, pitch decks, and financial model development.

Benefits: Investment opportunities for outstanding startups, strategic support for participating founders, access to experienced mentors, and a valuable network.

SME Growth Lab/Bujeti Accelerator Program Cohort 4 (N500,000 grant)

The SME Growth Lab, in partnership with Bujeti, has unveiled a new plan to bolster the growth and sustainability of SMEs in Nigeria. 

SME Growth Lab is a digital accelerator that empowers business owners and startup founders with digital skills, mentorship, community, and resources to transform their operations and drive economic growth.

For the 4th cohort of its accelerator program, SME Growth Labs is collaborating with Bujeti to provide funding support in the form of grants for outstanding entrepreneurs. The aim of the cohort is to enable participating SMEs to overcome financial obstacles to their enterprises.

Benefits: A N500,000 grant for the top 5 participating entrepreneurs

African Climate Mobility Youth Solutions 2023 (up to $5,000)

The Africa Mobility Forum is calling for young innovators, groups, and startups with innovative projects aimed at addressing mobility challenges in Africa. The initiative seeks to support outstanding projects that address challenges related to

Environmental loss and damage

Climate awareness and literacy

Ecosystem restoration, and

Green solutions.

To be eligible, your solution must be relevant to climate change considerations, incorporate innovation and creativity, be pioneered by youths aged between 18-35 years, be sustainable, and scalable 

Benefits: Selected projects will receive funding of up to $5000

YouthADAPT Challenge 2023 For Africa’s Female Tech Innovators

The Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program calls for female applicants to the third edition of its YouthADAPT challenge, which is aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs who are implementing solutions to tackle climate change. 

The Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program is a joint initiative of the African Development Bank and Global Centre on Adaptation. It seeks to support young founders leading startups and executing ideas that can drive climate change adaptation across Africa. 

Benefits: The winners of the challenge will earn a reward of $100,000, and they’ll get access to mentorship as well as the dynamic YouthADAPT Alumni Network.
